CHUR

Chur is the oldest town in Switzerland. The name Chur is derived from the Celtic term kora, koria, which literally means tribe or clan. The Alpine town is an ideal starting point for the train and mountain experiences.

In February or March all spectators can enjoy the famous Carnival of Chur as well as the Schnitzelbankoobig on Monday evening. In the spring the annually Exhibition for Commerce, Industry and Trade (HIGA) is held and in autumn the Grison Autumn Fair (GEHLA) is taking place. In May or Juni the "Churer Maiensässfahrt" takes place, as well as the Churer Fest in the late August and the Schlagerparade at the end of September.

In the section of music, dance and theater, the Theater Chur, the Klibühni as well as the Postremise offer a varied program. The Grisons Museum of Art, the Rhaethian Museum and the Grisons Museum of Nature rank among the three well known cantonal museums of Chur.

The sport facilities Obere Au daily welcome the fans of sports and wellness. The local mountain Brambrüesch is known as a skiing resort in winter, which can easily be reached directly from the city center by a dondola lif. In summer, magical summer meadows and hiking trails await you.

GRAUBÜNDEN

The canton of Grisons bears the name of the former politically weightiest of the Three Leagues from which it arises. Since the constitution of the modern canton by the Swiss Condederation in 1803, the name Graubünden is official.

The canton is the largest in Switzerland and is mainly characterized by mountain landscapes. Due to the geographical conditions, it is the most sparsely populated canton.

In Grisons there are 150 valleys, 615 lakes (of 1500 lakes in Switzerland). 937 mountain peaks up to the Piz Bernina at 4’049 m as well as the largest prehistoric landslide in the world, which is still visible in Flims. The whole complex of mountain chains in the Rhine- and Inn-source area is called the Grisons Alps.

Grison is the only canton in Switzerland which has three official languages: German, Romansh and Italian. At the same time it is also the only canton in which Romansh is an official language. Due to that and therefore also the cultural diversity, but also because of its shape and nature, the canton of Grisons is also known as Little Switzerland in Switzerland.
